Metropolitan Design School is Long Island’s career school for Interior Design. Through hands-on instruction, small class sizes, and real-world experience, our students gain the confidence and skill to turn creativity into a profession.
Metropolitan Design School is a co-educational, in-person learning environment dedicated to the study and practice of interior design. Our mission is to cultivate the next generation of designers through immersive, skills-based education that combines creativity with real-world application.
The curriculum emphasizes hands-on training and industry exposure, guiding students from the fundamentals of residential design to advanced concepts in lighting, perspective, and isometric drawing. By the program’s end, students are fully equipped to design professional commercial spaces, ranging from offices and retail environments to restaurants and hospitality settings.
Founded by the family behind East End Interiors—a trusted name in the design community for over 35 years—Metropolitan Design School was created to fill a vital need for design education on Long Island. When the Metropolitan Institute of Interior Design closed its doors, we stepped in to ensure that aspiring designers could continue to learn, grow, and pursue their passion for the built environment.
Here, students benefit from small classes, personalized instruction, and mentorship from industry professionals who know what it takes to succeed. Every course combines technical training with creative exploration, preparing graduates to enter the design industry with confidence.
Our curriculum combines foundational design principles with hands-on experience in residential and commercial interiors. Students learn how to bring ideas to life—from color theory and space planning to professional business practices and digital rendering.
MDS offers a New York State Licensed Diploma Program, designed to develop both artistry and technical skill through clock-hour-based courses.
